Negotiation is a portrait of the urban ground plane, a study of that which is below our feet. "Motion and stillness, fear and confidence, frustration and titillation are acutely influenced, usually unconsciously, by our path" says Cinnamon. "As a pedestrian of Manhattan, or any large city, to move forward is a negotiation, our path is a negotiation dictated by the physical conditions of the street. The sidewalk, curb, stair, threshold, elevator, hallway, living room, and finally, the bedroom floor affect our daily behaviors, decisions and interactions with others." This notion is brought to life as the sculptural texture of the urban concrete surface is transformed into a sumptuous rug for an interior space. This contrast between hard and soft, exterior and interior provides an inspired translation of reality vs. inspiration melding the perception of hard concrete which we encounter every day with natural soft wool at our feet, in our home. |
