[ the process ] The weavers with whom we work in Kathmandu are masters of the traditional weaving techniques and transform the finest high-altitude Himalayan wool into individual worked of art. Every step of the process, from the careful hand-carding of the wool to the delicate tying of each knot, reflects the rich heritage of this endangered craft.
[ features ] All rugs and carpets are 100% handmade (including wool washing, carding, spinning, dyeing, knotting, trimming, and final washing)

All rugs and carpets are made of pure Tibetan Highland sheep's wool which is characteristically flexible, strong, and lustrous. It is the finest wool available;

Three ply wool is used for the pile;

The finest quality cotton is used for the foundation;

elson & company selects from 220 colors using natural/vegetable dyes and Switzerland's colorfast bio-product dyes;

Strike off samples are made to confirm color selections;

Standard sizes are offered in 4 X 6 - 12 X 15;

Fringe may be exposed or tucked;

All rugs and carpets are made to order;

Turn around time ranges from 12 - 15 weeks depending on size and complexity of design;

Due to the handmade nature of our rugs and carpets and the use of natural dyes, color and size may vary slightly; and

Each rug or carpet may be custom designed by color, shape dimension, pattern, and knot count. Custom rugs may be made in 100 knots and 60 knots per square inch count. There is an upcharge for custom work.
